Description of QALICB
Williams is a family owned and operated manufacturing production facility of link sausage, patties and breakfast sandwiches. They are also a distributor of food products for other companies. This project constructed and equipped a new 200,000 Square Foot facility for manufacturing, a cold storage and dry storage distribution center, along with a truck maintenance shop and corporate offices.
Community Benefits
Williams Sausage Company, Inc. employs over 500 individuals at its existing facility and the expansion will add approximately 200 jobs offering pay rates greater than the $14/hr. average wage for the area. The Union City area has experienced very high unemployment over the years with multiple companies shuttering facilities, including Kohler, which laid off approximately 160 workers. Employees receive retirement plan benefits in the form of a 401(k) plan with matching employer contributions, paid vacation time, discounted products and paid holidays. Williams provides a full benefits package, and all employees receive classroom and on the job training upon hire with additional training available throughout employment. This project was so impactful to the area that it received the 2017 Novogradac Journal of Tax Credits Deal of the Year Award for its measurable community impact. Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam said that this Pacesetter CDE investment “will create hundreds of new jobs for Obion County residents and bring us closer to our goal of making Tennessee the No. 1 location in the Southeast for high-quality jobs."
