El Pasoans Fighting Hunger is El Paso’s only food bank and a member of Feeding America. The Food Bank is the distribution center for almost 100 partner pantries throughout the region and continues to serve the community through expansion, with plans to open another food distribution center and operations center in West El Paso.
Community Benefits
El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank distributes 93.6M pounds of food per year; 78M meals annually to Low Income People and food insecure individuals in the El Paso area. The Food Bank serves 180,000 food insecure people annually, and NMTC financing helped to fund food purchases and employment costs. El Pasoans Fighting Hunger has 92 full-time employees that oversee a large cohort of volunteers that contribute to the Food Banks success, where less than 1% of expenses go to overhead costs. Pacesetter’s NMTC financing for working capital and food reimbursements, combined with low overhead costs allow for substantially all monies in the programs to directly benefit the community. The Food Bank is located in a USDA Low Income Low Access Food Desert Census Tract and a majority of the surrounding greater El paso area is rated as a Food Desert as well.
