Description of QALICB
San Carlos Apache Healthcare is the tribal corporation and organization that provides healthcare to members of the San Carlos Apache Tribe. In 2015, they transitioned from a federally operated hospital under the Indian Health Service Department and provide healthcare services in both their Peridot and Bylas, Arizona campuses.
Community Benefits
NMTC funding was used to construct a 45,000 SF hospital annex and a 34,000 SF medical clinic that will provide primary care medical services and specialty care services in a Non-Metro Census Tract on the San Carlos Apache Tribal Reservation. The hospital projects it will be able to retain 64 permanent jobs, create 30 permanent jobs, create 84 construction jobs, and increase services to treat 3,500 unduplicated clients annually, 90% of whom identify as Native American. Studies have shown that disease patterns among American Indians are strongly associated with adverse consequences from poverty, limited access to health services and cultural dislocation. The new health center and hospital annex will bring culturally tailored primary care and specialty care services to tribal members.
