Description of QALICB
Interfaith Family Services is a nonprofit that empowers families in crisis to break the cycle of poverty. The name “Interfaith” reflects the various denominations of Christian churches that came together to offer transitional housing and empowerment programs for homeless families in response to a citywide study that revealed a lack of services for this population. Since then, they have helped hundreds of families achieve self-sufficiency. They exclusively target working poor families because they are the least likely to qualify for temporary assistance but the most likely to achieve long-term self-sufficiency when transitional support is available.
Community Benefits
Interfaith will open an extended-hours childcare center to give children an educational advantage while enabling parents access to life-changing services for nights and weekends. Parents will receive career coaching to help obtain employment with a livable wage while receiving the financial coaching needed to make the most of their new salary. The center's DART bus stop will make it easy for families from surrounding communities to participate in the programs offered.
