Description of QALICB
Established in 1982 by Jo Curtis, Ambassador Kathryn Hall, Lorraine Griffin Kircher and Liz Minyard, the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) addresses the critical issue of hunger by providing food-insecure North Texans with edible surplus food and grocery items otherwise destined for landfills.
Community Benefits
Construction of the new 200,000 SF Northern Distribution Center will close a 30 million meal gap facing residents in North Texas. The project will include 60,000 SF of dry warehouse space, 70,000 SF of refrigerated warehouse space, 12,000 SF of office space, seven refrigerated docks, 11 dry docks and a 28,000 square foot volunteer center with the capacity to accommodate up to 400 volunteers per day. The new facility is crucial to NTFB’s 10-year, $55 million Stop Hunger Build Hope Capital Campaign. The new Northern Distribution Center will allow the Food Bank to expand its network, increase food capacity by 50%, distribute an additional 30 million nutritious meals annually, and have space for more employees and volunteers. The new facility will retain the existing 147 positions and create an additional 20 new permanent jobs.
